Fruitful and Sappy

“Psalm [92:14]-15  They will still yield fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap and very green, to declare that the Lord is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.”

Having reached an age which by almost all opinions would be considered “old”, this verse is an encouragement to me.  That God is not finished with me yet.  I still have a job to do.  His call upon my life remains.
If you have ever watched the movie called Independence Day, you may remember the part where the military hits the alien ship with a nuclear blast.  Things fly everywhere and once the air clears, the word comes through, “The threat remains.”  The alien ship was untouched by the blast.  This is how I have come to view the call of God on our lives.  We may be hit with a circumstance that is devastating.  That knocks us down in a powerful way.  But as the smoke clears, we must remind ourselves that “God’s Call Remains.”

We may be getting older and showing the scars of battle, but if we are still alive then God still has a job for us.  Our most fruitful and sappy years may be just ahead of us!
